Damai – DAMAI BEACH RESORT

Damai Beach Resort

I visited Damai Beach Resort Kuching – one of many delightful Sarawak hotels, in January 2009 and stayed only for a few days as I was living in Kuching. The first thing to note about this one of the Kuching hotels (or rather, the hotels that are within easy driving distance of Kuching airport – 45 mins)  is the main entrance and check in desk. Lovely!

-

Very nicely decorated and decked out mainly in the traditional dark hard wood that is very common in the area – teak – presumably mainly from Indonesia (deforestation, one has to wonder…)

-

I found the staff to be friendly and helpful even though the reception area was fairly busy on our arrival.

Damai Beach Resort - the lower pool
-

As we emerged from the hotel reception we were guided past the main hotel pool and the massage area. There is also an outdoor bar located beside the pool, which is reasonably expensive in my opinion but its the going rate for a 4 star hotel in Sarawak. Alcohol is not cheap here, let that be known! Even in the supermarkets a bottle of red (or white) wine that would commonly cost £4 back in United Kingdom would cost around 50 ringitt, which equates to over £10 ($15 US). Someone is getting very wealthy here!

-

Our room was located on the beach front, and again I was really impressed by the beautiful views of the South China Sea and the coast line as we walked along the sea front. Being the rainy season it was not too busy but busy enough to have a pleasant atmosphere.

-

The whole area, including the beach, was thoroughly tidy and the gardens were nicely manicured too. Oh, and if you want to eat – there are 2 restaurants within the hotel itself, and quite a number of other seafood style restaurants within about 20 minutes driving of the hotel. The seafood restaurants offer far more affordable fayre to the traveller and if seafood is indeed your thing – its freshly caught that day and its wonderful!

-

All in all first impressions for this one of the Kuching hotels would score 4.5 out of 5!

Hi Michelle, you mean on the beach at Damai?

There are some areas along the sea side that you can indeed barbeque – at least I would have thought very much so – as they are fairly secluded parts. I am not too sure however about the main beach areas – there may be too many other people around and the hotel staff may not appreciate that. The best thing to do would be to get in touch with the hotel – if you do a websearch again for “damai beach resort hotel” then you should be able to reach them easily this way.

Sorry I can’t be more helpful and have a great time at Damai – gorgeous place!

Kind regards
Joseph

Good Day.

Hello Joseph bonjour. Thanks for dropping by my site and input a line or two. Well, it’s been a while since I last twitted and it’s solely for replies and chatting purposes for the meantime.

I enjoyed shooting foods like any other people do and appreciate every dish served. Gastronomy derived from people-to-people and food alone is an art for me especially when the dish is well-prepared and decorated in a manner that can be flamboyant, well-garnished, and brings memorable taste to eaters. Neat to say, to live is to enjoy.

It’s good to know that many Europeans love to settle @ my hometown. I don’t know why but according to surveys, it probably have to with the laid back lifestyle in Sarawak. :D

We do have an online forum @ http://www.catscity.com.my
Do register yourself (It’s free) there and we’ll be ready to response to any questions raised. My nick name in that forum is ‘bytez’. The forum is about Kuching’s events, developments, properties related etc.

BTW, you have a very informative site here. Good to know you and stay in touch.

Here’s my twit (in case if ur interested :P ) : http://www.twitter.com/josephteo

Hi Joseph, thanks indeed for coming by the Damai website and taking time to comment!

I love the food here in Sarawak – its wonderful – to see it, to smell it, and of course to taste it! Just a couple of weeks ago there was a group filming for the Asian Food Channel (Janet Liew – is that the ladies’ name?) at my girlfriend’s hotel. Not sure what they were cooking up, but it looked and smelled something delicious!

Yes, I have settled here in Kuching in part due to the laid back lifestyle, Joseph. Its also cheaper (for most things, but certainly not all!) than the west is, so provides for a better quality life style.

I’ll be sure to join your forum, thanks for the invite, Bytez! ;-)

I’ll try and get your Twitter name up and running Joseph. Got a problem at the moment in that it keeps asking me to reset my password. Pain in the a..! So it is.

Take good care and have a fine day!

Regards
Jo

HAI
BOLEH SAYA TAHU ADAKAH DAMAI BEACH RESORT MENYEDIAKAN TEMPAT UNTUK MENGADAKAN PROGRAM SEPERTI REUNION?
BERAPAKAH HARGA YANG DI KENAKAN UNTUK PROGRAM TERSEBUT?

Joseph November 12, 2010 at 6:05 am

Hi Anwar, thanks for your query. I’m afraid you’ll have to get in touch with Damai Resort about that as I don’t actually represent their hotel.

Joseph
