Being from the United Kingdom, apart from the fact that I wanted to see my girlfriend and meet her kids and the family, I also wanted to enjoy the hot weather!! I arrived in Malaysia from the United Kingdom in late November 2008 so just in time to experience some nice temperatures of around 35 degrees centigrade.
So with this in mind one of my priorities was to do some swimming!

The rainy season apparently unsettles the ocean so swimming in the sea is not as idyllic as it is at other times of the year. However, I was very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the swimming pools – both at Damai Beach Resort Kuching and also at Damai Puri – the other hotel, which is about 2 miles up the road.

The pictures I have included here show you more than I can tell you, just how wonderful the pools are! The lower pool at Damai Beach Resort tends to be very busy and is great for the kids – you can watch out for them while having a refreshing drink at the pool side bar.
The upper pool which you can get to either by a regular mini bus service from the hotel reception area or by walking up the steps, tends to be less frequented by children which makes it very pleasant for a quiet swim or cool off from the heat of the sun. The pool itself is lovely and clean but whats more – the views are totally stunning! I could not believe that I could swim while at the same time have such amazing views for miles and miles!
This is one of the photos I took to show you just what I mean by that!
All in all for the 2 outdoor swimming pools at this one of the Kuching hotels I have to give them 5 out of 5!

I’ve got to be honest – I’m very lucky! I now live 45 minutes drive from this beach.
We tend to go with my girlfriend’s kids – one is 12 the other 14. We’ll spend a bit of time just paddling in the water in the sea, or by having a cooling dip in the lovely hotel pool. Then on the way back to Kuching, we’ll stop off at one of the fantastic seafood restaurants for some freshly caught fish or shelfish. I’m not a fish eater myself but I love prawns – the prawns in those seafood restaurants near Damai are not to be missed – large, freshly caught and simply delicious!
