Damai Hotel
I visited Damai Beach Resort Kuching - one of many delightful Sarawak hotels, in January 2009 and stayed only for a few days as I was living in Kuching with my Malaysian partner. The first thing to note about this one of the Kuching hotels is the main entrance and check in desk. Lovely!
-
Very nicely decorated and decked out mainly in the traditional dark hard wood that is very common in the area – I believe this was teak, which commonly comes from Indonesia. I found the staff to be friendly and helpful even though the hotel was fairly busy on our arrival.
-
As we emerged from the hotel reception area we were guided past the main hotel pool and the massage area. There is also an outdoor bar located beside the pool, which is reasonably expensive in my opinion but its the going rate for a 4 star hotel in Sarawak for Kuching hotels – alcohol in this part of the world is costly.

Our room was located on the beach front, and again I was really impressed by the beautiful views of the South China Sea and the coast line as we walked along the sea front. Being the rainy season it was not too busy but busy enough to have a good atmosphere. The whole area, including the beach, was thoroughly tidy and the gardens were nicely kept too. Every thing was nicely clipped and with the swaying palms you can’t help but sense you’ve witnessed the tropics.
Its very similar to what I would imagine Maui or Mauritius but this is Malaysia – and quite honestly its a fraction of the cost of so many other tropical paradises!
-
All in all first impressions for this one of the Kuching hotels would score 4.5 out of 5 from me!

How do I see if I can add a day to our reservations. I don’t see anywhere on the website to do this.
Thank you,
